Can you iterate?

Can you iterate?

Iterating is not the same as having no idea what you are doing. It is in fact quite the opposite. You know where you want to be, but don’t know the way to get there.

Because where you want to be is in the future, you will know more about how to get there the closer you are to it. As you pave that road, you will discover the sink holes, the hills, and the wide open spaces that you could not see from afar.

So start paving. It doesn’t matter if you need to go back later and put up some cones.

Upload / Download iOS Photo stream options

iOS’s incorporation of photo stream is a marked improvement for sharing photos and media between devices. However, right now it is always a two way street.

If you want to upload to the photo stream, you have to also download.

This is fine for my iPad, and my MacBook pro, but I have more limited storage on my iPhone. I want to upload from my photos to get the images off of it. I do not want to download all images from my other devices.

Anyone know a way (jail broken or not) to make this change?

I love snarky app developers

When you make something better and people just don’t get it, sometimes you need to be blunt. I know the feeling.

The power of distance

Often, when pressured to finish something quickly, with the client looking over my shoulder, I am tempted to use my first incarnation of a design.

There it is. It works. I already have it. It is done. Changing it means more work, more time, and a second review process.

It often takes me a weekend to evaluate how I actually feel about a product. Why was I not sold on it? What, exactly, was that nagging feeling in the back of my brain that sad it isn’t right yet. You are missing something.

By taking a day away from the project and getting some distance, I am able to look back at it and see it how someone else might see it – as if for the first time.

Almost There

Is there such a thing as the uncanny valley for all things? What is it called?

When a design or idea approaches a point where it is almost perfect, or almost where it needs to be, the problems that once were hidden by ineptitude now seem to be glaring and acute.

Previously, there was no mention of these problems. They were non issues. However, they have the possibility to become show stoppers once they are brought to light.

How much weight to give these if they have always been there? Do you hold up, or launch, and plan it iterate them out? What framework exists for evaluating a problem’s current relevance?

Magnified Money

I just got a microscope for the iPhone, and have been toying around with it. There is micro text hidden all over a twenty dollar bill!

How do you listen to music?

Pandora? Turntable? Spotify

Why? Is the social aspect important, or the fact that a playlist is made for you?

Mac dictation using the iPhone 4S and iTeleport

Have an iPhone 4S?

The you have everything you need to bring to power of Siri and Nuance dictation to your Mac for only $19. Buying the full version of Nuance Dragon Dictate would cost you $199!

Using the the new version of iTeleport VNC app, you can dictate anything to your phone and it will input it to text directly on your mac running Snow Leopard or Lion.

The set up is easy, and can work even when no wifi connection is available.

This has saved me a lot of time, in fact I dictated this entire post using this process.

Just click where you want text to go, then dictate to your phone’s mic or headset!

Where is the spotify / turntable.fm solution for video?

I use and love Spotify. I use and love Turntable.fm. Together they would be amazing. Where is the video version of this?

My Consumer Desire:

I want to be able to play any television episode, without ads. I want to be able to play any movie without ads. {Current “in theatre” all the way back to [tippy title=”the first video ever recorded.” header=”off” width=”460″ height=”365″]

[/tippy]

I am willing to pay for this service. I watch a very little amount of television or movies, and I would be willing to pay as much as $15-$20 a month – as long as it had what I wanted, when I wanted it. I feel confidant that the average american – who watches more than 4 hours of TV each day and is quickly switching to on demand mind set – would be willing to pay more.

I also want to be able to see what my friends are watching, and join them in a movie or TV show, and watch it with them. I may not use it often, but when a friend is watching an episode of Firefly, I want to be able to spontaneously jump into it with them, and comment on it as it happens. With voice. And obnoxious mis-quotes.

I also want friends to be able to line up programming for me. If a friend has been ranked as a good selector of documentary movies by many friends who I think tend to like similar movies as me, I want to see that person’s movie recommendations. (Friend here used to mean “Person connected to me in a social network).

Questions: Is this a viable business model? Would license fees overrun this? Is it already in the works? How can I get a beta invite?
