Why Google AdSense and I don’t get along

I have several forms of advertising on this site, all aimed at bringing in a little bit of money. Most of them do. Through various different affiliate programs and other ad setups, I have earned almost $2000 from online advertising since I started advertising on my blog. Not much in the long run, but it more than covers the cost of my web hosting fees.

There is one exception. AdSense. Here are my stats for Google’s AdSense program:

The Moon Rise

The moon rises here are one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

Both taken from my backyard…

Hitchhiking to Hope, AK

After two weeks of living, working, and spending my free time with the people here at the collective, I needed to take some time off. Part of the group here decided to go across the bay to clear some trails and camp out as a group of 12, but Walter and I decided to head out on our own and do some real camping while hitchhiking to experience some of of the Alaskan people.  CIMG4397

Current Projects

Part of my job with couchsurfing is to write posts for the CouchSurfing collective blog. You can read the stuff I am posting there at http://blog.couchsurfing.com.

Everything is going well here, and I found a way to make some cash as well. Once a week I am cutting a guy’s yard, and this morning Andrew and I cleaned and painted a giant fishing schooner down by the wharfs. I got to use a small flame thrower to burn the old paint off and dry the hull out before we coated it with new paint. Pretty awesome.

Thank you to the Dunwoody Crier and James Stevens

James Stevens, of the Dunwoody Crier, recently published an article on my travels in Asia. I want to thank him for writing the story, which I was not expecting at all when I left for my trip.

There are some easy ways to find post about my trip to Asia. At the bottom of this page are links to the most commented articles, and on the side bar there are links to different categories. Click on a country to see all the posts from that country.

I am currently in Alaska, working for CouchSurfing.com and will be here for the rest of the summer! Enjoy looking around the blog!

The CouchSurfing Collective in Alaska

I have arrived in Homer, Alaska and it is everything I thought it could be. More probably. I ended up surfing at a house in Anchorage with my buddy Travis who I climbed with in Ton Sai, Thailand. The next day I met up with some of the other collective participants and drove down to Homer. I drove the first part of the trip, and  guy named Andrew who I had also met in Thailand drove the rest of the way. We stopped off at a little pizza joint on the way down for dinner, and Cameron and I walked into a bar where we were astounded by the crowded interior.  The headline man/band was called Hobo Jim, and he was amazing. We sat for a beer and a few songs, ending with the National Anthem. The whole bar participated, men, women and children all.

Farr Associates

I have just finished making the new Farr Associates site live. It is a project I have been working on for the past two weeks or so that I have been hanging around Atlanta. Still have a few tweaks to work out, but I am proud of it, and it helps with some greatly needed financial assitance for Alaska. Just in time too.

13 web tools, applications and sites that can make your life better

NetworkingI spend a lot of time online. Probably too much. However, I use the power of the internet to make my daily life easier, more productive, and integrated. This allows me to take random Wednesdays off to go rock climbing, or to travel the world and stay connected.

Here is a partial list of what I read when I am online, and the tools I use to make my life better, online and off. The actual applications that integrate past the internet are at the bottom. [note: I get zero money from these sites]

Tech / Productivity

Lifehacker
[http://lifehacker.com/]

Lifehacker is one of my favorite sites. It offers ways to integrate your online life with the real world using methods that enhance both of them. How to track your workouts online, how to manage your finances via text message on your cell phone and many more productivity tips can be found here.

Gizmodo
[http://gizmodo.com/]

Gizmodo has long been considered one of the better tech blogs, and it keeps proving it. With multiple updates on the latest tech gadgets, phones, computers, and with a penchant for shamelessly promoting Apple products, they have a fun, unique take on tech life.

Make Use Of
[http://www.makeuseof.com/]

The best directory of usable applications for computers, web, and cell technology that I have found. Everything from cell phone GPS tracking to the best way to manage gmail.
